Inspired by the surrounding nature, particularly the birch trees in Fiskars village, Spiral Tree combines the idea of growth, connection and entanglement. The sculpture was made specially for the ‘Täällä-Här-Here’ exhibition – held to celebrate the 25 year Anniversary of ONOMA, the cooperative of artists, designers and artisans in Fiskars.
In Spiral Tree a range of green, copper and golden fabrics are layered and stitched to make hundreds of floral leaf-like forms. Piece by piece, these forms are joined into multiple fabric chains — that twist and turn, in and out, weaving their way up a pleated spiral core. Delicately balancing, the elements hold each other in place — forming an interconnected network entangled together.
