Layering, Stitching, Cutting
Consisting of thousands of cubic formations, this handmade textile sculpture evolves through an organic work process – displaying an intricate labyrinthine landscape. The geometric shapes – identical yet differing in size and material – are incrementally pieced together to build a complex composition.
Inspired by the technique of ‘Patchwork’ this sculpture incorporates a traditional crafting method in an unconventional way. As each fragment is hand-stitched to another, there is a constant element of surprise, as the structure naturally bends and grows in unexpected directions. Made from a variety of woven fabrics – silks, linens, cottons, – the white and translucent subtle hues create a delicate and sensitive surface of light, shadow and reflection.
