Hand-stitched fabric construction

Complex Simplicity is a double-sided wall of hundreds of white blocks hand-stitched together in a regular geometric order. Made from a variety of woven fabrics, the white and translucent subtle hues enhance the work’s complexity, whilst creating a delicate and sensitive surface of light, shadow and reflection.

Complex Simplicity is part of a series of mathematically inspired works handmade by Deepa Panchamia. Started in 2014, new blocks have regularly been added to the structure, to create an elongated wall. The intention now is to add blocks to the sides of the piece and to document as it gradually expands outwards.
